My new Local Wool yarn is finally here!

A cause for celebration…

After a lot of patient waiting, and increasingly impatient waiting and chasing, my new yarn has arrived!

Last year I commissioned a machine knitting machine spun to my specifications with first clip ‘white’ lambswool from sheep at Fernhill Farm , it’s been a long time coming but good things come to those who (slightly impatiently) wait…

Woollen spun in Wales and with the fleece coming from 15 miles away from the studio, it has very few processing miles, making for a much more sustainable and fully traceable product (you can visit the sheep at one of heir open days if you like).

As for how the yarn feels - it’s lofty, bouncy, and oh-so-soft! I’ve worn my test swatch next to my skin for a whole day and I can confirm it doesn’t scratch or irritate. As the yarn isn’t dyed or bleached in any way it has lovely natural heathery tones running through it.

With a large minimum order it was a large investment and potentially risky - what if I didn’t like it? Luckily it turned out as well as I thought; in fact it’s exceeded my expectations and I cannot wait to see how it takes the natural dyes.
